Catriona Remocker

I am so excited to join the talented and comprehensive team providing health and wellness services at Marine Drive Naturopathic Clinic. In the practice, I provide services as a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC). My background includes advanced post-graduate training in Couple & Family Therapy and almost a decade’s experience promoting health in the community.

My areas of specialty include:

  • Relationship issues
  • Health/wellbeing issues
  • Stress/anxiety
  • Depression

  • Family issues
  • Grief & loss
  • Work issues
  • Trauma

Whether seeing individuals, couples or families, I always apply a family systems theoretical lens to my work, which is solution-focused and can be short-, or long-term, depending on client goals.

Clients often say they are grateful for the insightful, nonjudgmental, open, and sometimes humorous relationship we are able to create together; and often tell me that I am able to explain complex ideas in a way that they can understand. I like to believe that even though therapy can be hard work, it can also be fun and should definitely be rewarding!

My educational background includes a BA from UBC in Psychology, a Masters in Social and Behavioural Health Sciences (Health Promotion) from the University of Toronto, post-graduate training in Couple & Family Therapy (Bowen Family Systems Theory) and my current pursuit – a PhD in Social Dimensions of Health from the University of Victoria.

I have worked for almost 8 years with the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research at the University of Victoria, where I also guest lecture in the department of Psychology. In this work I have primarily run and provided expertise on projects related to alcohol and tobacco use in the community and help the provincial government in their management of the current opioid crisis.

My passion for this work also ties in with my lived experience of mental and physical challenges related to stress and anxiety, tied in with family issues. I am proud to work as a part of this team as I can attest to the power of naturopathic medicine in combination with family systems therapy to provide short-term relief from symptoms, as well as changes in long-term health and wellbeing. With a little hard work, I believe it is possible for all of us to move from just ‘surviving’ to ‘thriving!’
